In this passage, the people of God are urged to seek the Lord and forsake their wicked ways. If only they would return to the Lord, they would receive mercy.
God is in the business of pardoning. His pardoning is not reluctant or ineffective. He extends an abundant pardon.

1 John 2:1
The apostle John directed his beloved audience to live worthy of their calling. He desires for them to be holy and moral. Yet, he knows that perfection is unachievable. God provides a solution. Jesus Christ is our advocate before the Father.
